Chicken Oats Soup Main Ingredients
Chicken – I prefer using skinless chicken breast pieces. Skinless chicken breast cubes are easily available in online meat stores. Do you know? Chicken breast is low fat source of protein with zero carbs. There are two ways of adding chicken in this soup.
First way, you can pressure cook chicken pieces along with few Indian spices, shred and to soup.
Second way, you can use leftover pieces from chicken curry. Remove the chicken pieces from the curry. Shred them and add to the soup.
Making soup with leftover chicken curry pieces is yummy way to use up leftovers. If using leftover chicken curry pieces, the adjust salt and pepper accordingly.
Oats – In this soup recipe, oats play a dual role. They thicken the soup and provide nice texture to it. Oats are good source of fibre too.
Ginger-Garlic Paste – Ginger and garlic carry anti-inflammatory properties. The paste of these two add flavour, aroma and taste along with health benefits.
Garam Masala – Adds aroma, heat, spice and flavour.
Broth – I use the water in which I boiled the chicken. I call it easy broth. More on this in recipe card below. You can use water or vegetable broth too. To make a flavour-rich soup, use chicken broth.

Chicken and Oats Soup

Ingredients
- 100 g skinless and boneless Chicken cubes
- ½ cup Oats
- ¼ tbsp. Ginger-Garlic paste
- 1 tbsp. Peppercorns
- 1 Bay leaf
- ½ tbsp. Pepper powder
- 1 Carrot, peeled and cubed
- 1 Onion, finely sliced
- 1 Tomato, chopped
- 1 Green Chili, chopped
- ½ tbsp. Garam Masala
- 1 tbsp. minced Coriander leaves
- 2-3 fresh Mint leaves
- 2 cup Chicken broth | Water | Vegetable Stock
- Salt, as per taste
- 2 tbsp. Oil
Instructions
How To Make Chicken Oats Soup
- Pressure cook chicken and carrot cubes by adding ¼ tbsp. of salt, bay leaf, peppercorns and 3 cups of water.
- Pressure cook on medium flame for two whistles or till chicken pieces turn soft.
- Set aside till pressure settles. When the pressure settles, using a fine mesh strainer, drain and collect the water from the chicken and carrot pieces.
- Discard the bay leaf and peppercorns. Set this water aside.
- Gently shred the chicken cubes.
- In the meanwhile, in a soup pan, add oil and to this add finely sliced onion and fry till translucent.
- Now add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- To this add chopped tomatoes and green chilli and fry till tomatoes turn soft.
- Now add shred chicken and boiled carrot cubes. Mix well.
- Add water in which we pressure cooked chicken along with fresh minced coriander leaves and mint leaves.
- Bring this to boil by seasoning it with salt, garam masala ad pepper powder.
- Let this boil on low flame for another 4-5 minutes.
- Now add oats and cook for another 3-4 minutes or till you get your desired soup consistency. I like my chicken & Oats Soup to be thick.

Notes
Always remember, soup tends to thicken upon cooling. So, it is advisable to turn off the flame, when the soup is slightly liquidy than the desired consistency.
By the time, your pour the soup in a bowl and sit to relish, the soup will reach your desired consistency.
