Additionally, it’s packed with nutrients from the lentils and mango, making it not only delicious but also nutritious.
Kairi Dal | Mango Dal Ingredients
Raw Mango: Raw mangoes add a tangy flavor to the dal, giving it a refreshing and unique taste. Green raw mango also contribute a subtle sourness that complements the other flavors in this dal recipe.
Toor Dal: Toor dal, also known as pigeon peas, forms the base of the dal. It provides a creamy texture and a nutty flavor, while also being rich in protein and essential nutrients. Roasting toor dal before cooking it for mango dal enhances its nutty flavor and can also reduce its cooking time. To roast the toor dal, spread it evenly on a dry pan over medium heat. Stir frequently until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. Be careful not to let it burn. Once roasted, let the dal cool before using it in the recipe. Roasting the dal adds a depth of flavor to the dish, making the mango dal even more delicious.
Dry Red Chilies: Dry red chilies add a subtle heat and depth of flavor to the dal. They provide a mild spiciness that enhances the overall complexity of the dish.
Green Chilies: Slit length-wise, green chilies add a fresh, pungent flavor and a bit of heat to the dal. They contribute a lively kick that complements the tanginess of the mangoes.
NOTE: This recipe calls for spicy green and dry red chilies. We do not add red chili powder in this dal recipe. So choose spicy green variety of green chilies for this mango dal.
Other Ingredients – Apart from these we use tempering ingredients like mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and urad dal.
