Ingredients For Making Chicken Puffs
For Chicken Filling:
- Chicken Breast | Boneless Chicken Cubes: Tender and succulent, the star of our filling.
- Onion: Adds a savory sweetness and texture to the mix.
- Green Chili: Infuses a delightful kick of spice.
- Ginger-Garlic Paste: Enhances the aromatic profile of the filling.
- Cream: Brings richness and a creamy texture.
- Oil: Used for cooking and flavor enhancement.
- Salt: Essential for seasoning and balancing flavors.
- Spices – Red Chili Powder, Garam Masala, Black Pepper Powder, Turmeric Powder, Roasted Cumin Powder – The spice blend that elevates the taste with warmth and depth.
For Puff Pastry:
- Readymade Puff Pastry Sheets: Convenient and time-saving, the buttery layers that make our puffs irresistibly flaky.
- Egg: Used for egg wash, giving the pastries a golden sheen.
- Sesame Seeds (optional): Adds a subtle nuttiness and visual appeal.
Extra Ingredients:
- Mayo: Adds creamy and tangy taste and luxurious richness to the chicken puffs. Moistures the filling and imparts a delightful silkiness to the mixture. If you do not want to give egg wash, then try this. Brushing a thin layer of mayo on the pastry before baking can also contribute to a golden, crisp finish, adding an extra layer of flavor and texture.
- Oregano or Pizza Seasoning: Adds aroma and flavour to the filling.
- Cheese: Whether it’s a melty mozzarella, sharp cheddar, or a blend of cheeses, the cheesy goodness melds with the chicken filling, creating a harmonious balance of flavors.
Incorporating these extra ingredients into your chicken puffs adds layers of complexity and turns a simple snack into a gourmet treat. These ingredients not only enhance the taste but also contribute to the visual appeal. Making quick, easy and spicy chicken puffs is a feast for both the eyes and the palate.

Leftover chicken pasty recipe
I usually make chicken fry with boneless chicken pieces. So, it is easy and convenient for me to shred it. If using chicken on bone, then carefully shred the cooked chicken and remove the bones. In the shredded chicken, add mayo or cream and season with oregano or pizza seasoning. Mix and set aside.
Next, roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut them into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference or the amount of pastry available. Each piece will serve as an individual pasty, so consider the size of the portions you’re aiming for.
After that, spoon a good amount of the chicken onto one side of each pastry square, being careful not to overfill to prevent any spillage during baking. Adjust the filling according to your liking; however, it is good to leave enough pastry border to seal the edges effectively.
Dampen the pastry edges with a little water, then fold the pastry over the chicken filling, pressing the edges together firmly. You can use a fork to crimp the edges. This will seal the pasties, and also creates a charming ridged pattern along the border. Once your pasties are assembled, transfer them onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
For a final touch, whisk an egg and brush it over the pasties to create a lovely, shiny glaze. This will provide a beautifully browned and appealing finish as they cook. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
Bake the pasties in the pre-heated oven for 20-25 minutes or till they swell up and turn a deep golden brown. Baking time depending on the model of the oven, you use. So, make sure to watch them so they don’t burn.
Once ready, remove the pasties from the oven. They’re best enjoyed warm, making for a sumptuous snack or a hearty accompaniment to a fresh juice or hot tea. This quick and easy method not only saves time but also brings a creative twist to leftover food offering a delightful meal.
