Trifle is a chilled layered dessert found in English Cuisine. Trifle is no fuss and easy to make fun dessert recipe. Here layers mostly divided into three.
Base layer, middle layer and top layer. Base layer is mostly made with crushed biscuits or bread or sponge cake.
For middle layer, either whipping cream, jello or custard is used. Finally for the top layer, fruits, or chocolate sauce is used.

Best Fruit And Cream Trifle Ingredients
Fruits: Fresh fruits are ideal, but you can use frozen or canned fruits when fresh ones are out of season. Just make sure to drain canned fruits and thaw frozen ones before using. For this trifle, I used fresh pear, apples, banana and pomegranate seeds in trifle. You can use an any seasonal fruits like mango, strawberry, blueberries, raspberries, etc,
Whipped Cream: Use heavy cream and sweeten it with sugar. You can also add a bit of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
I use Instant Whipped Cream powder in making trifle. This whipped cream which is easily available in any supermarkets or you can order online @ BlueBird India.com. Check label on the packet to know how to whip it up or you can even check BlueBird India site to know more on the product.
Biscuits: For base, I am using biscuits instead of sponge cake. Biscuit base plays a crucial role in adding texture and flavor to a trifle. The biscuits are typically buttery and may vary in types. Choose biscuits depending on personal preference and desired flavour. You can use classic digestive biscuits, shortbread biscuits, or even chocolate-flavored biscuits.
Tips for Making the Perfect Fruit and Cream Trifle
- Choose Quality Ingredients: The key to a great trifle is using high-quality ingredients. Opt for fresh fruits, good-quality sponge cake or ladyfingers, and homemade custard if possible.
- Layering: The beauty of a trifle lies in its layers. Make sure to layer the components evenly to create a visually appealing dessert. Start with a layer of biscuits, followed by fruit, and whipped cream. Repeat this process and fill in the trifle dish.
- Flavor Combinations: Get creative with your fruit choices. While classic trifle often features berries, you can use a variety of fruits such as peaches, kiwi, and pineapple to add a unique twist to your trifle.
- Chill Before Serving: After assembling the trifle, it’s important to refrigerate it for at least a few hours (or overnight) before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly.
Variations In Making Trifle
Chocolate Lover’s Trifle: Swap the traditional sponge cake with layers of chocolate brownie or chocolate cake. Add chocolate custard and a drizzle of chocolate sauce for an indulgent treat.
Tropical Paradise Trifle: Use a mix of tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, and coconut. Incorporate coconut cream into the layers for a taste of the tropics.
Nutty Crunch Trifle: Add a delightful crunch by incorporating chopped nuts like almonds, pecans, or pistachios between the layers.
Lemon Berry Trifle: Infuse your trifle with a refreshing lemony twist. Use lemon-flavored cake, lemon curd, and fresh berries for a zesty treat.
Vegan Trifle: For a dairy-free version, use plant-based custard, whipped coconut cream, and a vegan sponge cake. Ensure that all your ingredients are vegan-friendly.
Holiday Trifle: Customize your trifle to match the season. For example, during the holidays, add layers of spiced cake, cranberry sauce, and a touch of nutmeg for a festive flair.

Iftar during Ramadan:
Yesterday was the hottest day of Ramadan this season. After several days of rain, the sun finally came out in full force. The sudden change in weather made me a bit tired, but overall, it was a good I had the pleasure of attending an iftar potluck at a friend’s house.
I always enjoy iftar parties. Before the iftar meal, the women gather for a meeting where we discuss religious matters and recite Quranic verses. We bring snacks to share with everyone at the meeting. If there are many people, we usually have dates, Rooh Afza (rose syrup), fruit salad, samosas, or pakoras. But if it’s just family members gathering, we have iftar dinner at the host’s place after the party.
When my friend called to invite me to her iftar potluck and asked if I prefer bringing snacks or dessert? I quickly chose dessert. I have been wanting to make a trifle for a long time, but hadn’t found the time during Ramadan. The hot weather made me crave a refreshing chilled dessert for iftar. So, I decided to make a creamy trifle loaded with fruits.
