Badam ka Harira (Hareera) is thick, creamy, nutty and delicious Hyderabad Special Almond Drink. Almonds and milk are the two main ingredients in making this harira. By tossing cardamom, clove and cinnamon in ghee we bring a unique aroma and taste in harira. We make badam ka harira mostly during winters, in pre and post wedding functions and in Iftar during Ramadan.
About This Recipe
Hyderabadi Badam ka Harira is nourishing and EASY to make health drink. Every house has got its own variation of making this harira. The recipe I am going to share with you is simple and easy to make. I got this recipe from my dear friend Q, who makes the BEST harira in the world.
The main ingredients in making harira are almonds, rice, dry coconut, sugar, milk, ghee and spices. Goodness loaded harira is an age old treasured post partum recipe.
Harira is also a winter warming recipe. My mom use to make dry powder of all the ingredients and store it in a moisture free air tight jar. She use to mix a heaped spoon of this powder in milk. Boil it and serve it. Badam ka harira is my childhood favorite winter hot drink.
We make harira often during Ramadan too. When consumed after a day long fast, this drink is hydrating, gentle on tummy and filling.
Main Ingredients In Making Badam Ka Harira
Badam | Almonds – Nutrition rich almonds are naturally gluten-free, high in fiber and good source of Vitamin-E. These heart healthy nuts are good to raise your good cholesterol level. Almonds add sweet, woody and nutty taste to the drink.
Always remember to use premium quality nuts. Sometimes, almonds will be bitter in taste and this may impart on taste of the drink.
Rice – I love to add basmati rice. Basmati rice gives flavour, aroma and taste. Rice will thicken the harira and will add texture too.
Milk – The consistency of harira completely depends on milk. If you like milkshake like consistency, then add more milk. If you like soupy consistency, then add less milk. I like harira both the ways.
To make this dairy-free, use nut milk or oats milk. There will be change in nutrition and taste when non-dairy milk is used in making harira.
Ghee – Adds smoky flavour to harira. The aroma that spreads in the house when spices are gently sautéed in ghee is mesmerizing.
Sugar – Adding sugar is optional. You can sweeten the drink with jaggery (Gud) or honey or brown sugar. The color of the drink may vary depending on the sweetener used.
Dry Coconut Powder – Add either dry coconut powder or coconut flakes. Dry coconut adds sweet pleasant taste, which nicely compliments with other ingredients in harira.
Cinnamon, Cloves & Cardamom – These spices add flavour, taste and aroma. Always use whole spice, while making harira. Powdered spice will add more flavour and may ruin the taste of almonds in the drink.

Notes
Lubna's Serving Suggestions:
I love to drink this badam ka harira warm. But this harira also tastes good when served cold.
You can make this harira 4-5 hours before serving and leave it in fridge to chill.
If you want to warm this before serving, stir the harira well and pour it in a microwave safe container and microwave it for 30-40 seconds. Serve warm by pouring this into serving glasses.
Alternatively, you can make this little thick and serve in bowls as almond soup. Adding chopped almonds as garnish will make this soup look festive and appetizing.
