Over the past few years lot has been changed in food photography. I still remember my initial days of food blogging, where blogging was much about the recipes…..But over the years, food blogging has raised to new heights taking food photography into concern. Apart from props, DSLR’s came in fashion. Many of my time food bloggers transformed to ‘Digital Camera’ era.

To make this task of clicking, editing and sharing easier, bloggers took a deep step in looking out for easy to carry gadgets like mobile phones/tablets. Gone are the days where mobile phones were just used for talking and texting. With the invasion of high end smart phones along with whole lots of features and apps, food photography was not left behind by this…Why food photography, I recently joined Instagram and I can see whole lot of different sects of photography there….food, nature, literature, places, monuments,……every click has got its own story to tell….isn’t it??

Until recently I never took food photography through mobile camera seriously. But when people from Asus sent me Asus Zenfone 2 Laser to try out and review the ‘incredible camera’ of it….I started working on it….First of all, you cannot carry your DSLR everywhere and if you are like me lazy and when you have kids, the handbag will be filled with their stuff only when you are going out….at that times a mobile with good camera will come very handy.

Food photography runs on three basic rules… Plating, Styling, Lighting irrespective of the device you are using….
PLATING:
Choose appropriate props, backgrounds and napkins. If you got little time, then just make a rough diagram of what is in your mind regarding the food photoshoot. Most of the times, when we cook food, hungry tummies in the background will keep you on toes while clicking, so we may forget what we have in our mind regarding the shoot. So it is better to write a note or draw a rough diagram. You can see in the picture below, the simple change in the background has made the food look different.

STYLING:
Create a mood or tell a story with your food in a click. Try out the angles in which the food looks more clear and appetizing. Composition is the key to better food photography. Don’t hesitate to play with colors.

LIGHTING:
This is one of the vast subjects in food photography. Study the light. The intensity of light is different in different seasons and the light varies throughout the day. Morning light is different from that of afternoon light and so as the evening light. First check out for a place where you get good light. Then keep the food there and click throughout the day for every ½ hour or one hour to see the change. Not only is this, there a difference in backlight and sidelight. So check these options too. The temperature of the light depends on the direction also. For example say the light source is from a west side window then you get good light from afternoon to till sunsets. Know the light to get brilliant pictures. Avoid flash.

In ZenFone 2 Laser you have got an option called ‘Low Light Mode’ option which helps to click brilliantly in low light. Check this out.
SOME TIPS ON SHOOTING WITH ZENFONE 2 LASER:
- First learn to hold the phone, without disturbing the camera. Steady fingers are must when you are shooting with smartphone.
- Focus on the food. Choose best props and background to suits your food.
- Light is the key mantra. Allow light to play the drama.
- Check out which option is best while clicking and adjust according to that. For example in the picture below, you can see I have used ‘Depth of Field’ option in Asus ZenFone 2 Laser which will give, 50 MM macro lens effect by blurring the background as you can see in the picture below.
Aperture f/2.0 Exposure Time 1/60 ISO 150 Focal Length 3.78 mm
ZenFone 2 Laser rear camera has laser auto-focus technology for the fastest possible clarity. ZenFone 2 Laser beam measures distances at lightning speed – and that means near-instant focus as fast as 0.3 seconds, especially in dim light conditions. The laser auto-focus even accelerates close-ups photography, compensating for the extra distance created by the lens receding during framing.
Can you spot that ‘Bokeh Effect’ in the background ??

Sometimes you want to post multiple pics on your blog or social media….like this one…I went out with friends the other day to a chat corner and clicked some random pics and posted as collage…Asus Zenfone 2 Laser have got an awesome collage maker, where you can collage up to 7 pictures at a time by even applying some awesome photoeffects…like you see in the picture below.
You can collage pictures, edit them, apply backgrounds, filters and share them with easily.
With ‘Blazing Fast Cat 4 LTE, I have even posted some teaser pics of today’s post on facebook and instagram fast and easy. I have almost tried all the modes in the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser and currently obsessed taking photos with it. I can just slide this in my kitchen apron while cooking and listen to my favorite numbers. The ZenFone 2 Laser have got 5 magnetic built in speakers to give that magnificent sound effect and moreover I can click in between….isn’t it wonderful…??
