About Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee
Who can resist the comforting aroma of freshly ground coffee on a chilly winter day? Now imagine it paired with the world’s finest chocolate—irresistible, right? These days, I’m absolutely smitten with Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee.
My love affair with coffee began years ago during my computer course at APTECH. Near the bike parking, there was a coffee shop where the air was filled with the intoxicating scent of freshly pounded coffee. That aroma is still etched in my memory and remains one of my fondest moments to this day.
While I don’t indulge in coffee daily, it’s my go-to treat during moments of self-care—my cherished #MeTime. My preferences vary with my mood, from strong brews to instant blends, but chocolate-flavored coffee always holds a special place in my heart.
This Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee is my latest addition to my list of favorites. Creamy, rich, and frothy with the goodness of nut milk, it’s vegan, aromatic, and utterly indulgent. Give it a try and fall in love with its luxurious flavors!
Why Cashew Milk??
Curious why I chose cashew milk for this recipe? Well, credit goes to the incredible bloggers who have shared their vegan-friendly recipes as part of my weekly meal plan event. Exploring their ideas inspired me to give my hot chocolate coffee a vegan twist.
Having already tried almond milk hot chocolate, I wanted to experiment with the creamy, nutty richness of cashews. Not only does cashew milk add a delightful flavor, but it also brings its nutritional benefits. This cashew hot chocolate coffee is packed with heart-friendly fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
Oh, and did you know you can brew hot chocolate with a Keurig? I discovered this the other day, and I didn’t actually know this.
Cashew Hot Chocolate Coffee Ingredients
- Cashew Milk
- Flavor and Texture: Cashew milk is creamy and slightly nutty, with a rich texture that blends perfectly in hot beverages.
- Nutritional Benefits: It is dairy-free, making it ideal for vegan or lactose-intolerant individuals. Cashew milk is also rich in heart-healthy fats, vitamins (like B6 and E), and minerals (like magnesium and zinc).
- Homemade or Store-Bought: Homemade cashew milk ensures purity without preservatives. Store-bought versions often come fortified with extra nutrients.
- Chocolate From Ghana With 84% Cocoa
- Cacao Content: The 84% cacao ensures an intense chocolate flavor with minimal sweetness, offering a perfect balance for this drink.
- Origin: Chocolate from Ghana is known for its deep, rich flavor, thanks to its high-quality cacao beans.
- Nutritional Benefits: Dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants and may support heart health and mood improvement.
- Drinking Hot Chocolate Powder
- Purpose: Adds a smoother, sweeter chocolate flavor to complement the richness of the bar.
- Varieties: Opt for a high-quality hot chocolate powder without excessive sugar or unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Coffee Decoction
- Role: Brings a bold, aromatic coffee flavor, balancing the sweetness of chocolate.
- Preparation: Freshly brewed coffee or a traditional South Indian decoction works beautifully for its intense flavor.
- Benefits: Coffee is rich in antioxidants and provides a pleasant energy boost.
- Water
- Function: Dilutes the richness of the cashew milk and chocolate, ensuring a balanced consistency.
- Tip: Use filtered water to avoid any off-flavors in your drink.
- Honey, Optional
- Sweetener: Honey offers a natural, floral sweetness that pairs well with both coffee and chocolate.
- Nutritional Perks: It provides a small energy boost and contains trace antioxidants and antibacterial properties.
- Alternatives: Maple syrup, agave, or brown sugar can be used for vegan or flavor preferences.
Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee
The preparation of Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee is fairly simple but delivers an exceptional drink. Begin by melting the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl, then bring water to a boil. Stir in the hot chocolate powder. Whisk the mixture until it starts to thicken, then turn off the heat. Add the cashew milk, coffee decoction, melted chocolate, and honey (if desired), whisking everything together until smooth and frothy. Serve immediately, and feel free to top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of extra cocoa or chocolate for a decadent finishing touch.
Tips for Making Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee
- Quality Ingredients Matter
For the best flavor, choose high-quality chocolate with at least 70% cacao. Dark chocolate with a higher cacao percentage gives a rich, intense flavor. Freshly brewed coffee (or strong coffee decoction) is also essential for that bold coffee kick. - Control the Sweetness
Adjust the amount of honey based on your sweetness preference. You can also use maple syrup, agave nectar, or stevia for a different flavor profile or to suit dietary preferences. - Froth for Creaminess
For a frothy texture, use a milk frother to whisk the cashew milk before adding it to the hot chocolate-coffee mix. This will create a velvety, luxurious mouthfeel. - Use a Double Boiler for Chocolate
If you’re melting chocolate, consider using a double boiler to ensure it doesn’t burn. This method helps the chocolate melt evenly and retain its smooth texture. - Adjust the Coffee Strength
If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, add more coffee decoction. If you’re more into the chocolate taste, reduce the coffee quantity slightly. Find the right balance that suits your taste.
Variations of Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee
- Iced Version – If you’re craving something cool, turn this hot drink into an iced version. Simply prepare the hot chocolate cashew coffee as usual, let it cool, and serve over ice. Add whipped coconut cream or dairy-free whipped cream for an extra indulgence.
- Spiced Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee – For a cozy, seasonal twist, add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, or even a dash of chili powder for a spicy kick. These spices complement the rich chocolate and coffee flavors beautifully.
- Mocha Cashew Coffee – If you love mocha, mix in a little more coffee and a bit of cocoa powder in addition to the chocolate for an even deeper coffee-chocolate fusion.
- Nutty Flavors – Boost the nutty taste by adding a splash of almond or hazelnut extract, or topping the drink with crushed nuts like almonds or hazelnuts.
- Caramelized Version – Stir in a spoonful of caramel syrup or caramelized sugar to give the drink a buttery, caramel flavor. You can even drizzle some caramel over the whipped cream for an extra sweet treat.
Why You Should Try It
This Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee isn’t just about the rich, creamy taste—it also provides the benefits of both coffee and chocolate. The caffeine from the coffee gives a gentle pick-me-up. The antioxidants from the dark chocolate and the heart-healthy fats from the cashew milk create a drink that feels as good as it tastes.
Whether you’re looking to enjoy a comforting drink during a cold day or you want to try something new and exciting, this recipe offers the perfect combination of flavors. Plus, with the flexibility of adjusting the sweetness and chocolate intensity, it’s easy to make it just the way you like it!
Give it a try and let your taste buds fall in love with this luxurious, creamy, and aromatic beverage.
Embracing Routine: A Reflection on New Year
Today, as I sipped my delightful Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee, accompanied by the soothing tones of jazz on my laptop, my thoughts drifted to the concept of New Year. In both the family I grew up in and the one I married into, New Year’s Day is considered just another day. Aside from a new calendar, life continues its usual rhythm.
Speaking of routines, a recent conversation with a friend stood out. When I described my days as “simply routine,” she responded with “Alhamdulillah… life going on in routine is a big blessing.” And how true that is! In a world filled with uncertainties, living each day healthy, happy, and content is a profound gift.
For me, resolutions and changes aren’t confined to the turn of the year. I believe in embracing opportunities whenever inspiration strikes. Waiting for the “right time” can hold us back from fulfilling our heart’s desires.
What about you? Do you see New Year as a special time for reflection or resolutions? Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear them!

- Add the cashews to a blender.
- Blend, gradually adding water (in which we soaked cashews) a little at a time, until the mixture is smooth and frothy.

Serving Suggestions
- Top with Whipped Cream - A classic topping for hot chocolate-based drinks, whipped cream adds a light and creamy finish. You can go for regular or vegan whipped cream, depending on your preferences.
- Garnish with Marshmallows - Add a few mini marshmallows or marshmallow fluff on top for a fun, nostalgic touch. If you’re vegan, there are plant-based marshmallows available.
- Sprinkle Cocoa Powder or Chocolate Shavings - To enhance the visual appeal and flavor, dust the top with cocoa powder or finely grated chocolate. This gives the drink an extra layer of chocolatey goodness.
- Serve with a Biscotti or Cookie - Pair your Hot Chocolate Cashew Coffee with a light biscotti or your favorite cookie. The crunchy texture contrasts nicely with the creamy drink.
- Serve in Fun Mugs - Serve your drink in colorful or themed mugs for added fun, especially if you're hosting a gathering or treating yourself to a cozy solo moment.

I’m mad because I’m at work and I can’t try this immediately! It is really cold, damp, and rainy these past few days and I would love nothing more than to curl up on the couch with a book and a steaming mug of this. I usually drink almond milk lattes, so cashews would be a great addition to my line up. Thanks!
