Drumstick & Mutton
Munagakaya, is a Telugu name for drumstick. Drumstick which is also called as Munge ki Phalli | Sojni ki Phalli | Sahijan | Saragva | Muringakkai (Tamil) is a versatile and nutrient rich vegetable. Mamsam means mutton. Generally, lamb meat is preferable in making this curry. But you can use goat meat too. Curry cut pieces which are easily available in stores are perfect for this recipe. Meat on bone is generally preferable for making any mutton and vegetable-based recipe. As they say, mutton bones bring awesome flavor in a recipe.
Mutton Drumstick Curry Recipe
{Munge ki Phalli Gosht ka Salan)
INGREDIENTS:
- ½ kg Mutton (Lamb | Goat), curry cut
- 2 Drumsticks, nearly 10-12 pieces of 4 cm
- 1 big Onion, finely sliced
- 2 Green chilies, cut into half
- 1½ tbsp. Red chili powder
- ¼ tbsp. Turmeric powder
- ½ tbsp. Garam Masala
- ½ tbsp. Ginger-Garlic paste
- 2 tbsp. dry coconut powder
- ½ tbsp. roasted Coriander powder
- Salt, as per taste
- 2 tbsp. Oil
- 2 tbsp. minced Coriander leaves + 1 tbsp. for Garnish
PREPARATION:
- Marinade mutton curry cut pieces with red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, roasted coriander powder, dry coconut powder and ginger-garlic paste for 30 minutes.
- Scrape the drumstick and cut it into pieces of 4 cm each. Thoroughly wash and soak them in water for 10-15 minutes.
- Remove from water and pat dry. Add oil to a pan and saute drumstick pieces for 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
How to make Mutton Drumstick Curry in Pressure Cooker
- In a pressure cooker, add oil and fry onions until translucent. Now add ginger-garlic paste and fry till raw smell wafts.
- To this add marinated mutton pieces and fry for 5-6 minutes on low flame by continuously stirring.
- When the mutton pieces start to change color add 3 cups (400 ml) of water. Stir gently and place the lid of the pressure cooker.
- Pressure cook on medium heat for 7-8 whistles (till mutton gets tender). Turn off the flame.
- Once the pressure settles, carefully remove the lid and stir the curry. To this add drumstick pieces and ½ cup of water (if needed).
- Place it back on stove on medium flame and cook till drumstick pieces are soft. Add garam masala and minced coriander leaves. Adjust the seasoning.
- Turn off the flame when drumstick pieces turn soft. It will nearly take 15 minutes. This is a semi-thick gravy-based recipe. You can adjust consistency, according to your liking.
- Remove into a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves and serve warm with rice.
