Bidding adieu to mango season with this delicious and easy to make summer drink, Mango Kulukki Sarbath. During Ramadan time I came across a video on youtube, where a local street side seller was making Palakkad Special Kulukki Sarbath. I just loved the recipe and made it often for Iftar time.
What is Kulukki Sarbath?
Kulukki Sarbath is a very popular and much-loved summer drink in Kerala. In Malayalam language Kulukki means shaken, sarbath means juice/drink. This recipe is a shaker version of lemonade with basil seeds, chopped ginger and green chili. As this sarbath is made in shaker by shaking all the ingredients until frothy, hence the name Kulukki Sarbath.
Flavors in Kulukki Sarbath:
I have seen many versions of making this drink online and I thought of giving this my own twist by adding fresh mango juice. As the mango season is about to end, the mangoes are not bit tangy in taste and that gave this recipe a good tangy punch. You can also make orange and pineapple flavored kulukki sarbath. You can even add few chopped pieces of the fruit to give good bite and flavor to this drink.
It is time for our monthly Muslim Food Blogger Challenge event and the theme for the month is Thirst Quenchers | Comfort Warm Drinks. As it is still very hot here in Chennai, I picked up Thirst Quenchers as my theme and Mango Kulukki Sarbath is my entry to the event. Scroll down to check what my dear buddy bloggers have come up with for this monthly food blogger event.
Variations in Kulukki Sarbath
Lemon: The authentic recipe of kulukki is made with lemon juice. So you can easily skip mangoes and make this with lemon juice. Strawberry: If juicy strawberries are in season, then you can add the puree of it to make this sarbath.
Orange: In place of mango juice, you can use orange juice too. Do give it a try!Pineapple: After mango, adding pineapple juice to kulukki sarbath is my favorite. Try it!Apple: You can even use apple juice or appy to make this apple flavoured kulukki sarbath.
Cranberry: This has been our current favouite these days. You can use store bought (Tropicana) cranberry juice in making this sarbath.Kiwi: You can even try kiwi juice in making this recipe. Kiwi will bring in good tangy taste in the drink.
