We are at the height of the summer heat, and that means spending more time outdoors. One drawback of bug days out is the cost of eating out, even a seemingly simple lunch can end up quite expensive. One great way to get around this issue is to bring a picnic lunch along. Here are few tips to create a perfect picnic lunch.
Picnic Basket or Other Carrier?
We often think of the classic wicker picnic basket when we imagine a container for our picnic. This can be aesthetically pleasing, but the consensus is that baskets are somewhat impractical if on long walks. We can find carriers shaped like backpacks, which are perfect for those who like to hike and travel far on foot. We can consider a whole array of insulated picnic containers as well. No matter what style you eventually opt for, be sure there is adequate room for plates, cups, and cutlery, as well as the food.
Healthy or Indulgent?
What should we eat at the picnic? This is the central question that will make or break any picnic experience. In my mind, there are two ways to go; healthy or indulgent. Let’s not say that a healthy lunch cannot be enjoyable; if we have lots of fresh fruit and lovely light dishes, that can be just perfect in the heat. But, let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a little extravagance? Think cakes, ice cream, a bottle of something cold and fizzy, and you’re describing my heaven.
Keep it Hot or Cold
Sometimes it’s nice to have something at the correct temperature. The majority of terrible picnic experiences in my life have been when the supposedly hot stuff is cold, or the seemingly cold stuff is warm. This should never be the case; it is simple to use a cold brew bottle to keep your tea and coffee good or a thermal flask for hot foods.
Special Dietary Requirements
You can pick all your favorite foods and have a great time on a picnic. But it’s not just ourselves on a picnic unless we really have no friends. A picnic is a pleasant occasion, and we must consider our fellow picnickers’ tastes, preferences, and dietary requirements. It is essential to be aware of the multitude of diets in society now; vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegetarian are just a few. It is surprising how many regular foods are vegan friendly, and it only takes a little research to check each item’s packaging.
Location
Where to picnic can be the real key to an enjoyable experience. There are many options of location, for example, do you go urban and take in one of your city’s beautiful parks. Or is further afield a more attractive option; we could consider a day at the beach, where the possibilities are numerous and can suit various individuals in a group. Sun bathing is just as available an activity as swimming or volleyball. Other options could include a long walk ending at a lunch with a spectacular view.
