BlogAdda has sent me Thinner Dinner by Shubhra as a part of book review program. ….:-) I was very much thrilled when I got mail and then book from BlogAdda. This is my first time into reviewing a book….so I am bit nervous….:-)
Thinner Dinner by Shubhra Krishan is for those who want to cut fab and fit into slim jeans. A culinary journey of the author herself who took the challenge to shed those extra kilos not to look beautiful but to look healthy. By seeing the title if you think, there are salads, soups, recipes with bran and oats and moreover recipes with no oil or anything like that…then you are completely mistaken. Gone are the days when you have to eat less to shed more…..now a days….eating right at right time makes you keep in shape. Taking you inside the book….there are Delectable Dals with lots of healthy tadka’s and twists. There is choice in the recipe also as you prefer North Indian or South Indian….Isn’t it cool? Scrumptious soups, which are healthy and yummy…..and the author says ‘Life is too short for bland soups’ …..How true is that? Next comes Salad Nights….how often did you had a heavy lunch and wants to omit your dinners….or just want to have some light? A solution for those dinners is salads…..to keep your tummy gentle and make you fit for the morning. Then comes… lovely loaf recipes which keep you light and hearty all through the night. There are roti’s to romance with rumbling rats in your tummy…..so earthy fresh flavoured rotis…which breezes the air from the fresh fields to Punjab….or gives you an experience of sitting on road side highway dhabha….just the feel takes your days pressure away. Rotis for night always please my appetite. To go with rice or roti…a very versatile vegetable combo delights and makes hearty applause….vegetables are low in sodium and cholesterol…lots of fibre and many health benefits to make you look fresh…..’Go fresh with greens’…… Now coming to my favourite Potatoes…..yeah you read it correct…who says you can’t cut your fab with potatoes….author has done a whole new makeover to make potatoes fit in your diet chart…..isn’t it yummy….? Next to hit the menu are Ravishing Rice recipes….ultimate comfort food….a simple lemon rice to greeny peas pulao to flavoursome yakhni pulao…to make your dinner satisfying and indulging….Tired of eating Indian….toh kutch Italian hogayae…..? Praise Pasta for giving you break from routine food and taking your taste buds on an Italian tour…Shubhra says “Tonight, Let Tuscany Conquer your Hunger!”……she has even written three ways to slice the calories off pasta……so what are you waiting for….she has even mentioned best pal’s of pasta.
Pretty Pizza’s…..you might be wondering…..There are even Pizza’s squeezed into this ‘thinner dinner’ platter. How? There are some fabulous tasty toppings which can even melt a hardest heart. There are even Sizzlers! Who can resist them….Restaurant kitchen secrets unveiled…..What I love most going through in the book is a section…where the author chooses best of best recipes collected from her friends, colleagues, …..are all listed under ‘when guest arrives’. No need to think further when you have sudden guest for dinner…just flip around the pages and you could see a whole array of pleasing recipes…which can leave a exotic taste and make a memorable meal. I believe everything which ends sweet is always sweet. To end on a sweet note there are fabulous dessert to pamper your sugar rush…by keeping the sugar low….. Overall a recipe book which you can turn in to fix your everyday menu……with less ingredients and less time to whizz up. Recipes from restaurant kitchens, friends and colleagues.
There are cartoons which convey things humorously. Appetizing food photos along with trendy ten dinner secrets which you love to read……there are even feel good ideas to refresh you. Fancy names to the recipes with ramblings…. and with interesting tips and tricks to keep you trim. The book also teaches you to make your own fresh flavour fruit butter ….simple chikki to much on….tips on how to blanch vegetables….Finally a book with healthy meal makeover to look good, taste great, sleep easy and stay trim. To summarise in one line Healthy food, Healthy you.
