{Ramadan Special} – Puran Samosa by Farheen of Zaiqedaar Pakwaan
Sometimes a recipe will touch our chords and the music of memories start to play by….Today’s recipe is one such kind. Puran Samosa by Farheen of Zaiqedaar Pakwaan has bought in so many fond childhood memories, where these treats were made by my grandma on over my summer visits. It’s been really long since I had these. I am pretty nostalgic by seeing these samosa. As Eid is round the corner, these samosa make perfect edible gifts for your loved ones. Do try them out…
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu!! 🙂
First of all I thank Allaah Subhanu’wa tala for giving me this opportunity and blessing me to witness another Ramadan Alhumdulillaah!!
Secondly, I would like to thanks from the bottom of my heart to Lubna Karim of Kitchen Flavours for inviting me on her global Ramadan Event “Joy From Fasting To Feasting VIII “. Being featured on a world class blog as a part of well-known series, when I have just taken baby steps in the world of food blogging, is truly a blessing Alhumdulillaaah!!
I am Farheen who blogs at “Zaiqedaar Pakwaan” currently living in Bahrain. Hardcore Hyderabadi who is obsessed with Hyderabadi Cuisine. For me nothing beats like hyderabadi food. Alhumdulillah, homemaker and mother of two kids love to explore new cuisines, recipes and culture. Baking is my passion but cooking non-veg dishes makes my family their favorite. As I am a beginner in blogging world every day is a new learning experience for me.
Being new to blogging world, and as I completely hibernate from sharing or posting recipes during Ramadan, couldn’t say NO to Lubna when she invited me to be part of her event, though I took time to decide what to share when the blog is full of absolute amazing recipes from all over the world. Believe me it was not an easy task, as the work I do is so amateur compared to what she does. I am so elated to connect with you and your stunning space, JazakAllaah Khair Lubna. 🙂
Coming to the event:
Alhumdulillah, All the praises belongs to Allah who has made the month of Ramadan possible for us, the month of forgiveness, the month to compensate our past sins, the month of illuminating the hearts, the month wherein lies a night which is better than a thousand months. Ramadan is a chance for us to look deeply within ourselves and allow this kind of self-reflection to be carried.
In this blessed month of Ramadan, as we have now come to the grand finale-the last ten days that are even more blessed than the rest of Ramadan. In it is a night that Quran tells us is better than 1000 months. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“There has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month which Allaah Subhaanahu Ta’ala has enjoined you to fast, during which the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of hell are closed, and the devils are chained up. In it is a night which is better than a thousand months, and whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived” Al-Nasai 2106
As time is the essence, every moment counts. If we lose this opportunity, what is the guarantee we get next Ramadan? Whatever you need to do for these ten days to make the most ibadah, good deeds reciting Quran, dhikr, making dua, etc.. This is the better time. Striving hard in gaining the pleasure of our Lord, prolong for forgiveness and purify our intentions for the sake of Allah. Don’t just let this blessed hour of Ramadaan pass by… every moment of this month is an opportunity to earn the pleasure of Allah, have your Dua answered, and your sins forgiven… In’sha’Allah!! May Allaah ta’ala accept all our prayers…Ameen!!
Now coming to the recipe:
Sharing with you all my family favorite Ramadan special recipe which I make days ahead and freeze especially for Iftars. This recipe or Samose can be used at the time of Eid party too. The crispiness of samosa sheet and the melt in mouth texture of halwa is just irresistible.
Here is how you can make them:
Puran Samosa (Halwe ke Samose)
INGREDIENTS:
- Chana Dal 1cup
- Water 1-1/2cup
- Sugar 3/4 cup
- Ghee 1/4 cup
- Cardamom pdr 1tsp
- Saffron few strands
- Finely sliced pistachios 2 tbsp
- Finely sliced Almonds 2 tbsp
- Pinch of Saffron color
- Khoya 1/4 cup (optional)
- Readymade Samosa Patti/wrapper
PREPARATION:
- Wash and drain the dal. Pressure cook the dal in water until the dal is soft. Once done, cook the dal until there is very little water left. Remove it from heat. Once it is lukewarm, blend the dal in a blender until smoothly pureed keep aside.
- Pour ghee in a saucepan at medium heat and as it melts, add the pureed dal and cook uncovered for 3 minutes. Add the sugar and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring continuously.
- Add the sliced pistachios and almonds, cardamom powder, saffron strands, saffron colour and mix well. Remove from heat when the mixture is fairly dry and starts leaving sides. Add Khoya and mix well, halwa is ready. Let it cool down completely.
- Take a sheet of wrapper and fill a tablespoon of halwa filling, following the packet instructions make samosas shape and with the paste of flour and water seal all the edges well.

Ah! thats one blog I had visited long ago and lost the way! Thanks to Lubna! Farheen, I must say I never thought your blog was new or beginners! It is amazing and this recipe is totally new to me. Though the stuffing is what we use to make the Puran Poli – similar to paratha. But this is taking it another level of indulgent! 🙂 I am surely making this!
